Guide to Internet on the boat (hiking and camping)

We have divided this guide into three parts, according to the range of the different solutions.

Therefore, the first and cheap solution is the one where you have to be closest to civilization and the last solution can be used practically anywhere in the world.

Mobile broadband

The price of mobile broadband is falling almost quarterly, while the speed and connection are improving year after year. The development suggests that we will soon experience 5G internet, which will presumably germany phone number data change our use of mobile broadband completely and utterly, to be the primary way to connect to the Internet.

Until that happens, the mobile broadband has a limited range – especially when we get out on the water.

People in Denmark also experience this on the mainland. Nevertheless, it also has many possibilities.

If you buy the right equipment, the connection is somewhat better, which gives greater possibilities for its use.

The immediate solutions with mobile internet is to use a USB modem, but this only works if you have a computer or tablet with you.

Another solution, with a better connection

The router can better connect and handle a number of more devices than the USB modem can. It is therefore particularly ideal for short trips in the boat, where you do not sail too far away from the coast.

The best subscription for the waters around the Danish coasts is clearly Net1.dk, which runs on its own frequency, which covers particularly well on water and along the coast.

Net1 runs on a special frequency that works well in fringe areas and agency selection anp Presentation of requirements on the water, and they can actually deliver quite stable Internet even far from the coast between e.g. Denmark and Sweden.

Read about their special net on their website here.

You can also see a nice review of Net1 for use on the boat here:

Mobile broadband with external antenna
If the mobile router is not the solution to getting the Internet with you, then an alternative could be to buy an external antenna.

The problem here is often the size.

Personally, I don’t want to take one like that with me on the hike. Its turkey data absolutely ideal purpose is the boat.

Especially for those trips that remain in waters not too far from the coast. However, everything else being equal, it has a far greater possibility of connection than mobile broadband without an external antenna.
